Click to expand.Yes first time. The new album (Shakedown Street, produced by Lowell George!) wouldn’t be out until mid-November and some of the new songs were being debuted at that run. Including the title trackThe other oddity is they played their first 2 shows at red rocks July 7 and 8, 1978.

Billy broke his hand rught after that run and the band cancelled the rest of the summer tour. Their first two shows back were 8/30 and 8/31 also at Red Rocks. Four straight shows at red rocks, but 6 weeks apart.

Click to expand.this is the page I was reading about 78.08.30'After Drums/Space, we arrive at the most historically significant song of the night, the world premiere of If I Had the World to Give. This deep cut would only be played on two other nights, both in 1978, so this is a rarity indeed. Once again (probably because they were in the middle of the recording sessions for it while these shows took place), the band nails this song.

If you’re not familiar with this tune, it’s definitely a keeper, an honest to god love song, sung by Jerry, which is unusual. Musically, it’s pretty gorgeous, save the two short breakdowns that sound like they were pulled from Shakedown Street (the song) and plopped into it for no good reason. There are two key solo passages, a sharp bridge solo and the concluding piece, which features some incredibly high speed fanning. Since you’re probably not going to hear it live again, listen to it twice here.' 1978-08-30 Red Rocks this is kind of a mellow 2nd set, sort of got a unique feel.Estimated and Other One get some good mellow jamming going, some echoey guitar interplay with Garcia and Weir on Other One (7:45 minutes on Miller board) I don't recall having heard the like of before. If I Had the World to Give is absolutely outstanding, I don't remember liking this as much before (I'm pretty sure I've heard it before, I've heard at least a couple and there are only three).

Jerry does sing off-key, interestingly not just when reaching for high notes, which I thought was the problem (and why they dropped it). Overall it's a great performance though.
