At its heart letter carving in stone is a craft-based process founded on careful, sensitive design.Good lettering helps shape our environment for the better. Inscriptions are uplifting – whether a plaque to mark the opening of a new building, or a headstone or gravestone to celebrate the life of a loved one.
Individual letters are mini sculptures. Well-made hand-carved inscriptions are full of interest and liveliness.Over the years I’ve designed and made lettering for individuals, organisations, churches, colleges and institutions throughout the UK – from simple hard-carved plaques to public art installations and architectural lettering carved in situ. Based in Cropredy, a beautiful part of north Oxfordshire, we’re more than happy to carve, deliver and install throughout the UK. Everything is designed and made to commission.Commissioning a plaque, tablet or memorial can be an enjoyable and creative process. I try to make it relaxed, friendly and rewarding. Contact can be made by phone, email or letter – whichever is easiest. Studio visits are always welcomed – it’s a great place to see work in progress and explore different materials and approaches. With architectural lettering and site specific installations I’ll visit you and together we’ll we look at the site of the final inscription.Initial consultations and estimates are free and without obligation. We supply drawings, models and samples of materials and carved lettering to show what the final design will look like.
